Put Me in Coach
It finally happened. We turned on the radio, and there was a baseball game on! And everything changed.
It’s back. The Texas Rangers radio network is on the air! Eric Nadel and Matt Hicks are back in the booth calling the balls and strikes. The names Elvis Andrus, Adrian Beltre, and Shin Shoo Choo are back in our vocabulary.
Every year I vow to “pay more attention” and “watch more games this year”. This year is no different.
There’s something about the feeling in early March when the pre-season games actually begin. They’ve been working out for a couple weeks now, running drills, doing calisthenics, throwing long toss.
But now the games are on! Sure, it’s pre-season and they don’t count. But that’s part of the beauty of it. If they’re doing great, you can say, “That’s great! And it’s only pre-season!” And if they’re not doing great, you can say, “That’s okay! It’s only pre-season!” I love that.
The experts will give their predictions and well-researched analysis about who to watch and who to not. But the awesome thing about March is with the coming of Spring, and new life, comes new life for your team. Regardless what the science of it all says, you’ve got a chance!
I got so excited I actually mowed the lawn today just to smell the freshly cut grass and imagine it was Globe Life Park in Arlington.
Pathetic? Sure. I’m a baseball fan.
