This means you and me. We’re hilarious. I met a lady at a 4 way stop. She was clearly looking at her phone. She coasted right into the intersection, and unknowingly right in my path. Fortunately, I was looking and hit the brake, thereby avoiding a potential fender bender, an annoying insurance claim, and a story about this clueless woman.
Oh, and a story about how “people can’t drive.”
Hard truth: We’ve all said, “People can’t drive,” and yet we’ve all looked at our phones while driving. We know not to. We try not to. Maybe you’ve had some victories in this area. But we’ve all been guilty, just maybe not been caught.
It’s like a guy who sneaks into the movie, then gets mad when somebody steals a package off his porch. They’ve both taken something they didn’t pay for. He just thinks it’s worse when somebody else does it.
Driving is hard. There are so many things to pay attention to. Road signs. Stop lights. Other drivers. (You know. Those drivers who are worse than you. Which is all of them.) I know people get mad at me on the road, because I make mistakes. So do you by the way. And they’re mad at you too.
So, when you get out there, take your time. Keep your phone in your pocket. Keep your eyes on the road, the signs, the stop lights, and the other drivers. Like me. I’ll be watching for you, too.
And laughing.
