You Talkin’ to Me?

There was a time if you saw somebody talking to seemingly nobody, you might question his mental acuity. No more. Now it’s common to see someone carrying on a conversation while sitting alone in a restaurant. Walking through an airport. Wandering the aisles at Walmart. Is he holding a phone? Nope. Just yakking it up with no apparent regard to how it looks.

In the grand scheme it certainly has little or no eternal impact, but at a closer glance, it’s just odd. You’re absorbed in your own little sphere, having your little conversation, but to the rest of the world, you look like you’re playing with your imaginary friend.

Your one sided conversation adds no value to anyone else, but we all hear you. We’re not as annoyed as we are amused that you carry on as if this is rational behavior. It’s not like having a phone to your face. At least that looks like there must be someone on the receiving end of your chatter.

But it’s just you. Talking. To nobody. Reacting. Gesturing to the air. Laughing. We can all hear you. And you’re hilarious.

Just know there was a time when you’d be put away for at least a few days for observation.

But today, I’m enjoying observing you!
