Old Dog New Tricks

It’s very difficult to change my ways.
What was once easy is now extremely difficult. Things like “avoiding cookies.”
Correction: it’s never been easy to avoid cookies. Now they’re just taking their toll.
Cookies have caught up to me, and they’re here to collect their due. I’m paying for my lifetime habit with not only unsightly pounds, but raised blood sugar, tooth decay, and an unseemly character trait of gluttony.
I’ve been known to take all the cookies. Yes, all of them. Eat all the Nutter Butters. Claim the last stack of Chips Ahoy.
How rude.
Most people I associate with are fine Christians. They share. They care. They’re fair. I struggle in this area.
My friends are giving people. When someone offers to pay for lunch, there’s this gratuitous back and forth. “Oh, I insist,” and “No, I couldn’t let you do that.”
I could.
Is someone giving me food? I’ll take it! Especially where cookies are concerned.
But this old dog always says “Thank you.”
And “Y’all come back now.”
