AI Fake People

I used to think fake people just weren’t sincere. Now I have a new take. Fake people aren’t people at all. They’re artificial. Literally.

Welcome to the world of AI. It’s been around a while, but this soul-less entity just bit me in the soul. It’s been creeping into every facet of our world, and it’s now impossible to ignore.

When I saw the number one Christian artist in the country is not an actual person, I thought, this is becoming all too real. (Or is it unreal? It’s getting hard to tell.)

Imagine a guy who looks very life-like. He sings a familiar Christmas song. His voice is very good! The music, very good. The arrangement. The dynamics. The look. All very good.

Maybe TOO good.

If it’s “perfection” you want, from a technical standpoint, this is it. This is a song, an artist, a genre that has no flaws. You tell AI what you want, and it gives it to you. Perfect, right?

Wrong. It lacks heart. It lacks soul. It lacks… flaws. Who would have thought of imperfection as a virtue?

I guess God would. He knew we were imperfect. So he came to save us in the form of Jesus.

Today I’m actually embracing defects. Blemishes. Foibles. As I sat in a small worship service, the young lady leading us had a pretty voice. But sometimes it faltered just a smidge. (smidge: a musical term for a tad sharp) Her limitations weren’t enough to make you cringe, just enough to show she’s a human, trying her best with faults, fears, and sin, putting it all aside for a few minutes, and focusing on magnifying Jesus for a group of child care workers. I loved it.

We could’ve had a computer image of a perfect looking, perfect sounding singer who sang all the right songs with the right notes and said all the right words.

But we had a sweet teenager, playing her piano and pouring her God-created heart back to Him in song. It was a wonderful moment. I’ll take it!

Thank you Lord, for my imperfections, and how you can use them to glorify yourself. I don’t need a “perfect” person to teach me that.

Only Jesus. I’m leaning hard on His perfection today!
