Not really. We’d never say it. But it’s how we live sometimes. It’s easy to spotlight someone else’s foibles because we don’t share that shortcoming.
It’s rampant in ministry, families, even sports. Somebody goofs big time, and they’re exiled. And unfortunately, that’s often what must happen.
But we pile on. Think social media. Trigger issues bring out the self-righteous and pompous in massive numbers.
Famous people are particularly vulnerable. They’re over-exposed. Notice how attractive they can be initially, and soon loathed once sins are revealed?
Not once does Jesus jump on board the hate train of those who condemn others. He doesn’t let us off the hook. He tells us “examine yourselves.” 2 Cor 13:5
We rationalize. “Yeah, but I didn’t do THAT.” (Enter your sin of choice here ____)
We aren’t given that authority. My sins are just as bad as anybody’s. Good thing Jesus gives grace! But we must surrender. Why not do that now?
Then we can stop keeping score.
