Decades of bands. Been in a bunch, seen a bunch more. To all bands: As Neil Young once said, “Please take my advice.”
1. Work. Develope your craft. Get good. Easy to say, hard to do. But there’s no getting around it. Then comes the next important part. Dare I say it, maybe the most important part:
2. Play. How many bands have I seen that sound great, but look sad? They’re not having any fun! They’re just standing there, looking stone faced to the ground. As your audience, you’re giving me nothing to look at. You’re not giving me a “live show.”
I know you’re probably nervous, shy, whatever. And not everybody will be able to do it. But at least pretend you’re having fun. Smile! Look at your band mates! Look at your audience! Interact! Say something!
Have fun dang it! You’re in a band!
