Jesus was apprehended in the garden and taken away. I knew the soldiers were brutal, but I’d forgotten about the verbal abuse.
Luke 22 says they mocked Him. They blindfolded him, beat him mercilessly, and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?”
Then it says, “They said many other insulting things to Him.”
So it wasn’t enough to apprehend him, and it wasn’t enough to beat Him. They INSULTED Him!
They let their “selves” take over. Their emotions. Their fear. Their pride.
The blows had to hurt, but the words were probably even worse.
