Recovering Hypocrite

Hi, I’m Mike… (Hi, Mike)

Everybody hates a hypocrite. Saying one thing and doing another. Sweet on the outside, stinky on the inside. Talking the talk, but not… well, you know.

Jesus sometimes ate at Pharisees’ homes, even though he knew they were jerks out to get him. He wasn’t skeert.

One day while there he healed a man on the Sabbath. He asked the “experts.” Is it lawful? They didn’t answer, but he knew their thoughts.

He called them out. “If a child or an ox falls into a well on the Sabbath, do you pull it out?”

Sure.

Jesus does the same with me. If I’m critical, he’s on to me. I’m soon reminded of a sin of equal or greater value. My first response? Usually self-justification.

Hypocrites aren’t always somebody else. (Darn it.) But good news! We can confess it and be forgiven!

Again today.
