Fresh start. New beginnings. New habits, old habits, this is the day we do that.
I always listen to U2, New Year’s Day on New Year’s Day. There’s no redeeming message that I’m aware of, it’s just a cool sounding song and it’s called New Year’s Day.
One thing we often include in our resolutions is a healthier diet. We can all use work there. I’m told I can’t eat gluten. I still do it, but my lovely wife and life partner Lois keeps me at bay. She’s just trying to help me stay alive.
I’ve done pretty well, but like many over the holidays , I’ve slipped. Eating what I shouldn’t, not exercising enough, started back smoking. Not really. Just trying to get your attention.
But what can I do? I can make time in my day-timer for nothing. Can you make an appointment to do nothing? You can argue we should fill that time with God. And that’s not nothing. Start with nothing, and add God.
You don’t have to do God, but you can’t do anything else. Start with 5 minutes.
(I wonder if U2 is gluten-free? Never mind. Nothing but God.)
So. Got five minutes?
