I heard the news today, oh boy. It was on every news outlet. Thrilled at the prospect of a new Beatles song, I listened with intense interest to the synthetically produced, “Now and Then.”
Even typing the words “synthetically” gives me cause to pause. For some, the negative connotation to “AI” could put a damper on what I prefer to view as a monumental and historic event.
John Lennon died in 1980. Fortunately, he left some unfinished tapes. Paul McCartney, with his boundless work ethic and endless efforts to produce, saw yet another opportunity. Take the rough draft from the Lennon legend and make a Beatles reunion dream come true.
I listened multiple times. The more I listened the more I loved. I watched to the short documentary. I fell in love with not only the song, but the story. And then I watched the video. It was funny. It was sad. It was nostalgic. It was beautiful.
And I was hooked. Again.
Of course the reviews have been mixed. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see the overall positive response, even from “non-Beatle people.” It’s been described as “Lovely,” “Touching,” and “Pretty”. One flat out dissed it, knowing I loved it. That hurt a little.
I know. Not everybody can be Beatle people. Gotta love ‘em anyway.
It’s all you need.
