Didn’t see your favorite on the list? Or your song should have been higher? Join the club. But it’s not just one person’s top ten. It’s the top ten Beatles songs compiled from thousands of votes of Beatles Channel listeners during the “Top 100 Beatles Songs” on Sirius XM.
These are not just average people who like a few Beatles hits. These are self-proclaimed super-fans who are so sold out on the Fab Four they’re willing to listen to a station devoted entirely to John, Paul, George, and Ringo. These fanatics carry some clout.
The Beatles Channel does the countdown annually and not surprisingly, several songs wind up near the top every year. Even so, each year brings several surprises. And like musical taste itself, those surprises vary from person to person.
Example: I’ve always loved Magical Mystery Tour. It has the dubious distinction of landing at the bottom spot. #100 of the top 100. (But at least it made the chart, right?)
What I love about the Beatles Top 100 is throughout the countdown I find myself frequently saying, “I thought that song would be higher.” Since it’s physically impossible for all 100 songs to make the top 10, some resignation is required.
That means over 200 Beatles songs didn’t make the top 100!
A crime!
