What? Me Wrong?

Regardless of who’s elected, it’s unlikely we’ll change opinions. Even given data to the contrary, we will cling to our positions to the bitter end. We’d rather suffer than be wrong.

Why are we so ridiculous? I contend it’s our nature to preserve self over all else. We started as infants. We hopefully learned to release some of our narcissism. Some never do.

Let’s call it sin. We tend to think we know more than we actually do, particularly pertaining to morality issues. “Follow your heart,” “Don’t judge me,” (unless you agree with me) and as the Blues Brothers famously said, “Me and the Lord… We’ve got an understanding.”

We effectively make ourselves God.

In this arrangement, I get to say which scriptures apply to me and which ones apply to you. And since you can’t call me out, lest you be a “hypocrite,” I can’t lose.

Pretty convenient arrangement.

Our culture often looks highly on assertiveness, independence, even defiance. In our relationship with God that can look like stubbornness and haughtiness. Left unchecked it can morph into hostility. Don’t let that happen. Be God’s child. Even if you don’t understand or agree.

Trust and obey.
