Every Monday. 3:30am. 85 miles to work. 75 minutes. Nearly all interstate. It’s a sweet ride, filled with music, teaching, and/or quiet time.
Almost without exception. 4:45am. Old Jacksonville. My exit. And I have no idea it’s whizzing by in the dark at 75 mph.
I’m so wrapped up in my little world of worship, silence, or Beatles, I’m totally oblivious to where I am or where I’m going.
So this week I was going to beat it. The GPS! She’d remind me of my exit!
Guess what. Zooooom! Missed it again! And I think I said out loud, “Are you kidding me?”
But after an hour on the road, she’s been rambling about every little exit, turn, and roadside obstruction. She’s become white noise.
It was at this point, I actually heard God laugh. Yes. Call it my imagination, call it blasphemy, call it last night’s bad burrito. But I had a laugh with God.
He knows me. He knows my strengths, my shortcomings, and my funny bone. And He loves me. Now, He may not remind me of the Old Jacksonville exit every week.
But He does remind me to leave 15 minutes early.
