There are a lot of “shoulds” being thrown around. We all want to weigh in on what should have happened. “He should set an example.” “They should show respect.” “This should never have happened.”
If we listen to all the shoulds, it becomes difficult to keep up. Lots to live up to. Too much to remember. Because with every should from one side comes another should from the other. So how many shoulds are too many?
How about one?
As soon as we start dealing shoulds, we point the finger. And as soon as we point the finger, we’re saying, “You need to change, I don’t”. That’s an impossible position to maintain.
Are you a Mr. (or Ms.) Should? We all are sometimes. But the only legitimate should comes from God. His instructions on how we “should” live are all over scripture, but here’s a great starter for all of us, even when the “other side” isn’t doing it.
Better yet, ESPECIALLY when the other side isn’t doing it.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32
