The Best World Series: So Far.

Why? Because it’s the one we’re watching now.

I’ve always loved the Fall Classic. I used to know every winner since 1960, but there are way too many to memorize now. Yet, it remains one of my favorite times of the year. The drama, the history, the stats, and the sheer excellent play all factor into the ultimate event for the National Pastime.

The Washington Nationals are the Cinderella team. These first timers have caught America’s attention as they challenge the heavily favored Houston Astros. Everything from their shocking two game sweep on their opponent’s field to their newly adopted and fun theme song, “Baby Shark”.

The Houston Astros, in contrast, have been the predicted champion for months. The team with the best record in baseball rarely loses three games in a row, so it was no surprise they came back to own game three. They are, at least on paper, the best team of 2019, hence their odds on favored status.

But that’s why we watch. We never know what’s going to happen. The “best” teams don’t always win. In fact they often don’t. But it doesn’t mean they won’t.

Right now there are thousands of little kids who are counting on their heroes to make their young lives complete, and lifelong memories they’ll forever share. These are the games about which they will one day tell their children and their grandchildren, with likely exaggerated detail, “I remember when.”

And they’ll have good reason. Because with every pitch is the potential for everything from a change in momentum, to a season ending injury. From an unforgettable thrill…

… to maybe even history made.
