High Altitudes

“Should we experience a sudden loss of cabin pressure, masks will drop from the ceiling above you. Secure your own mask first before assisting others ……”

The attendant’s voice crackled over the speakers of the aircraft as the passengers dozed, stared at their phones, or talked among themselves.

It sounds a little selfish. Shouldn’t we put others before ourselves? Isn’t that the “Christian” thing to do?

But you can’t help a child with his overhead oxygen mask if you yourself are struggling to take in oxygen.

The same is true in other areas of our lives.

We can’t help others with their physical needs if we are not financially able.

I can’t keep up with, play with, or be there for my grand kids if I’m not physically fit!

And we can’t truly help others spiritually if our own relationship with God is not up to date.

Start by asking God to show you one area where you can draw closer to Him. Then commit that area to Him for 30 days and watch the ripple effect.

One day at a time.

Little by little, you’ll begin to secure your own life support, and can then freely assist the other passengers…

Now breathe normally.
