10 am Lunch?

10 am. Time for lunch!

Too early you say? When you eat breakfast at 4am it isn’t!

I work an early shift on a morning radio show. So by the time I get off the air at 10 am, I am ready to devour just about anything.

Fortunately, My Lovely Wife and Life Partner Lois takes good care of me and packs my lunch every day. We’re not talking peanut butter and jelly, either. (Although that would be awesome!) I’m talking about fine foods sealed in Tupperware to heat in the microwave. Beef stew. Chili. Chicken and vegetables. All manner of soups.

I’m getting a little teary eyed just thinking about it.

My co-workers comment when they smell the delicious aroma of roast beast wafting through the halls during an hour that for many of them, breakfast just ended.

“Turkey and mashed potatoes? Wow! Can you save me a little about two hours from now?”

“If there’s any left.”

I realize this is not the standard work day schedule for many, but this is my normal. A ridiculously early breakfast followed by a brunch-time lunch, and maybe a snack in the afternoon. What’s considered a typical “supper” for most is not on my radar. A late meal would only bloat me for my 8:00 pm bedtime, and create problems you’d rather not hear about. Let alone bad dreams and weight gain. And bad dreams about weight gain.

So beef and broccoli in the late morning? You bet. Vegetable soup before the sun is warm? Count me in. Ham with macaroni and cheese at 10:00 am? Abso-daggum-lutely!

Lunch. It’s what for breakfast!
