Is God Even Here?

Before you yell “blasphemy” or think I’ve not only lost my faith, but my mind, (the latter is always possible) consider for a moment the possibility that’s it’s both you AND me who perhaps doesn’t always believe in His constant presence.

If our actions are any indication of our belief, it’s easy to assume that sometimes we don’t even think He’s in the room.

What area of your life have you excused so many times you’ve become calloused to it’s impact on your relationship with Him?

Ouch.

Or what about times of crisis? It can be extremely difficult to respond in peace and confidence when our world is crashing and burning, or in the apostle Peter’s case, sinking. (See Matthew 14:30) Jesus was right in front of him, and he panicked. Has that ever been you?

Me too.

Or forget about the big tragedies, what about medium-size calamities? Flat tires? Strained relationships? The common cold? How do we respond?

(This post is beginning to hurt. Next time I’m going write about something fun, like baseball. Or circus monkeys.)

Or even little annoyances? They’re everywhere. Traffic. Screaming children. Madonna.

Okay, cheap shot.

Whatever bee is in your bonnet, weigh it against the big picture and ask God to help you deal with it. Or maybe not deal with it, but to let it go, and be relieved of the headache, heartache, or backache.

Even in times of triumph, joy, and comfort, it’s a natural reflex to accept it as given and not acknowledge the Giver.

Take a moment. Recognize who’s got his finger on the remote. Realize He calls the shots and He knows what’s best. He’s the provider of our needs and the source of our peace.

And he loves YOU. So. Very. Much.
