Slow But Steady Wins The Race

Mom told me a long time ago. “Just do something.” Turns out she was right. When I sit, I sink. When I stand, I soar.

If you’ve been feeling sluggish, no energy, no motivation, perhaps it’s time to get off the couch. There are so many “attractions” to keep you there. TV, The computer. FACEBOOK, for goodness sake. Whatever it is, it won’t give your body and brain the activity they need to stay healthy.

It’s hard to do everything you want to do. So many choices. Such limited time. But feeling good and being healthy are so important, and you have to start somewhere.

Here are four easy points to ponder as you begin your health journey. Start slowly, but whatever you do, start!

1. YOU HAVE TO MOVE.
The longer you sit, the harder it is to get up. The most difficult part of any job or activity is getting started. Once you get up, it gets easier. You just need some momentum. So go! Don’t think about it. “Just Do It”. (No, I didn’t get permission to use that.)

2. PUSH YOURSELF A LITTLE.
Do what you’re comfortable with, then add one thing. Start with walking, and go from there. It may be tough at first, but time marches on. Eventually, you’ll begin to notice changes. Maybe you don’t get winded as easily. Maybe you’ll start to feel more strength in your legs. Your back doesn’t hurt. Something will change. You’ll not only feel better, you’ll think better, too.

3. DO IT AGAIN.
Make it a priority. Every day. Don’t use the excuse “I’m busy”. Everybody’s busy. We find time to do the things we want to do. You don’t have to spend hours at the gym. But you do need something. Commit a half hour. Every day. At least six days a week. Okay, go ahead and take a Sabbath. It’s Biblical, after all. Use it as a reward for your consistency! But get back on the horse the next day.

4. YOU NEED A PROGRAM.
There are so many resources online to help give you the structure and motivation you need to stay on track. I like this one because as you age you have to be a bit more careful. Especially if it’s been a while since you’ve done any real workout. It starts simply and gradually progresses. The guy on the video is pleasant, clearly knows what he’s talking about, and has a funny accent. It’s great for seniors, but I recommend it for anyone just getting started. www.growyoungfitness.com

Do it for yourself. Do it for your kids. Dedicate it to the Lord. He’ll bless it.

You’ll be better than ever! It’s now or never.
