I had a dream. I was a comedian in a car getting coffee, and I recorded three shows. I picked up Fletcher Jonson, Mike Venable, and Roger Pharr, in that order. These goofs are some of the funniest guys I know.
I love coffee. I could drink it all day. Sometimes I do. Is that too much? Perhaps. Someone asked me, “Doesn’t it affect you?” Of course it does. It wakes me up, and it makes me chatty. Oh, and as if that weren’t enough, it’s delicious.
I don’t know a lot about cars, and I didn’t have a special car to pick the boys up, so I just swung by in my Saturn. It has a motor, a good radio, and cup holders. The air conditioning works most of the time, and it’s most attractive feature is it has over 200,000 miles on it and still it still goes 0-60 miles per hour. Eventually. We had no mounted cameras, so Lois just recorded it on her phone.
We stopped in Starbucks, I got a white chocolate mocha, and we made jokes with the help. We asked them how come Starbucks coffee is ten times more expensive than everybody else’s. We asked them how many people today mispronounced their order. We asked them if employees have a tattoo quota.
And then we watched the people. We talked about how funny life is. We talked about how funny people are. We talked about work, family, and how everybody thinks they know everything. We talked about people at the mall. That place is just oozing with material.
We wrapped it up by cruising over to Fresh by Brookshire’s to pick up a few supplies. I love Fresh. I go there even if I don’t need anything. They’re always celebrating something. But mostly we went to Fresh because you can basically buy anything there. So we bought the most random items we could conjure up. We bought some light bulbs, some flax seed, and a bouquet of flowers. And some more coffee. Just because we could. It was awesome.
So, if you ever have a dream where you’re a comedian in a car getting coffee, make sure you include good friends and some good conversation.
So often I forget my dreams. But this one I’ll never forget. So much to talk about.
And yet, so little actually said.
Mike,
The dream was real but the coffee too?
Yes, what can I say about observing people, about Starbucks—a fascinating place! Especially the different people who visit, the patrons, the baristas…everyone. (I recently did a three-part series on the patrons, tongue-in-the-cheek wise. You’ll find it on my site)
Isn’t it intriguing the half-page length drinks names they come up with? I don’t do coffee—this is my weakness: Venti peppermint hot chocolate, half-sweet, no foam, no whip, extra hot.
Then again, nothing beats the aroma of freshly brewed dark roast.
Especially if one can include three comedians in the mix.
And a toast to all coffee lovers!
