The weekdays are long. The weekends are short. But you persevere. You do the right thing. You show up every day. You do your best.
There are many reasons to be thankful, not the least of which is a healthy family and a good job.
I love my family. I have a wife, four kids, three daughters in law, one son in law, and three grand kids. And I don’t see them as much as I’d like.
I have to work a few more years, and some day, Lord willing, I’ll retire. I’ll stay active part time, but it’ll be on my schedule. And what I most look forward to is time. Time to visit my kids and grand kids. They may even get sick of me!
It’s easy to look back and say, “I should have spent more time with my kids when they were little.” There’s nothing I can do about that. But I can do something about today.
Even though I work a lot, I can make choices. I can choose to prioritize my family. It takes effort. It takes effort in my schedule, my mind and my physical and spiritual health.
Maybe you’re facing a similar situation. You’re well enough along to where there are fewer days ahead of you than there are behind you, and you want to finish strong.
There are very few people who get to the end of their lives and say, “I wish I’d spent more time at the office.”
Let’s face it. We have to work. So work hard. But do yourself and your loved ones a favor. Invest in them. Plan well. Get help if you need it.
And when you finally do go to your heavenly home, you can leave a legacy of love.
